where have i been?! + some recent faves

Hey friends! Long time no see! I pretty much didn’t blog for the entire month of October… I don’t have a good excuse except taking on too many projects and not being able to manage my time very well. This blog is truly my passion project so it kills me when it’s the thing that has to take a back burner, especially during THE WITCHIEST MONTH OF THE YEAR. (I’m seriously so bummed that I didn’t get any good Samhain posts up, although I did write a little about how modern witches celebrate Samhain over on Armorbelle.com if you want to give that a read!)

I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things and finding ways to balance my part-time job, my freelance work, and everything else I need to do to live. My priority right now is catching up on the freelance stuff I’ve fallen behind on, because that pays the bills, and working on finishing up Practical Magick for Modern Witches: Part Two, which launches November 18th and is available for pre-order now! I might be scarce until then, but I’m not dead, I promise.

In the meantime, here are a few random favorites I’ve been loving lately!

1. Dose of Paper makes the most beautiful, incredible custom journals. I just commissioned one from them and I can’t wait for it to arrive so I can share it with you!!

2. Did you hear that James R. Eads is doing another run of the Light Visions Tarot?! This is probably my holy grail tarot deck and I’m so excited to finally have the chance to get my hands on a copy!

3. I’ve been reading a lot of what Layla Saad has been writing about race and racism, particularly in the spiritual community. See her wise words on her website, Wild Mystic Woman, or follow along on her Facebook. We white women have a lot of work to do.

4. Also relevant, this article from Asali Earthwork: Black Women and Femmes Aren’t Only Relevant When We’re Angry.

5. Thinking of hopping on the travelers’ journal bandwagon… This lilac one from NayaPaperie is so up my alley!

And that’s about it for me! I’m recovering from a bad virus that completely knocked me off my feet this week, so I’m enjoying taking it slow and drinking hot tea. I hope you’re having a wonderful week, and that November treats you kindly! <3

april faves: oracle decks, laundry soap, and a cat!

Happy May! I hope your Beltane was full of love and flowers. Maybe wine? Mine had wine, for sure.

You know what a new month means… A new favorites post!

Things have been pretty different for me the past few days for a few reasons. First of all, we got a cat! Her name is Luna (because I’m a basic witch) and she’s so cute it makes me want to cry, even though she seems to hate me unless I’m giving her food. She’ll warm up eventually. I hope.

april faves: oracle decks, laundry detergent, and a cat!
Isn’t she cute? Don’t you just want to pet her? Yeah, me too. She’s not having it.

Secondly (and maybe more life-changingly), my last day at my day job was last week and now I’m officially a full-time freelancer! It’s been really fun to make my own schedule and I’m still not used to the freedom. Like I can just go to the store if I want to? Or go to the bank before it closes?? It’s pretty crazy, but so much fun. And it’s allowing me to work more on the blog, so expect some fun new things before the end of this month!

Decks I’m Using

I discovered the Spark Your Bliss deck through Instagram and it’s so cute! You can snag a copy by messaging @healthychicks, the deck’s creator.

I also received my copy of the Faerie Enchantments oracle and while I’m not 100% sure it’s the deck for me, I’m including it in my favorites because part of it IS my favorite: it’s edged in ROSE GOLD. ROSE GOLD!! Are there other decks out there that are edged in rose gold? If so, let me know because I need them all. It’s a seriously beautiful deck, even if it’s tough for me to read with so far.

Books I’m Loving

It’s taking me seriously the longest time in the world to read the Outlander series, but I’m on Drums of Autumn* right now and I’m… loving and hating it at the same time. I love it because I LOVE it but I hate it because I’m always stressed that a new bad thing is going to happen and it usually does!! So I’m reading with caution (and needing to catch up on the show because UGH I love everything about it)

Still slowly working through Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner* by Scott Cunningham.

Not a book, but a notebook: I snagged this cute floral notebook from Bando* and it’s seriously perfect. Hardcover + portable + pastel + college ruled = sign me up!

Pretty Etsy Finds

As you might know, my boyfriend owns his own leathercrafting business and he made me the gorgeous tarot card case shown above, partly to go along with my studies in Druidry (more on that in a later post) and partly because he’s a nice guy. You can get your own in his shop!

Obsessing over essential oil diffuser necklaces this month. What’s the best kind, wood, clay, or lava rock? I really like this simple one but also this wood one is really cool.

Can we talk about this gorgeous crystal hair comb?? The listing says it’s for weddings but maybe it can also be for frolicking in the woods pretending I’m a fairy mermaid? I think anything is possible.

Other Miscellaneous Faves

Laundry soap. Hear me out on this one. As I’ve mentioned in earlier posts, I’m trying to transition to a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Part of that meant swapping out my loathsome Tide pods (and the white residue they left all over my black shirts) for something better for the earth, and for me! I started using Young Living’s Thieves laundry soap and I’m in love. Never going back to the pods, no matter how convenient they may have been!! (If you want to read a little more about why I chose Young Living, I made a page for that here!)

And speaking of Young Living, their Grounding blend has been giving me life these past few weeks. Whenever the freelancer panic sets in, I just give it a sniff and my feet are back on the ground!

I’m re-watching Supernatural because my boyfriend hasn’t ever seen it. Does anyone else watch that show? Their portrayal of witches is so inaccurate it’s laughable but for the most part it’s so much fun to watch!

Plum Deluxe tea. Andy sent me a few samples to review and I love them! I’ll be doing a more in-depth review later on, but definitely check his stuff out. The Passion Blend Oolong is my favorite. It’s great hot, but as iced tea? DIVINE.

That’s about all that comes to mind! I’m sure my May favorites will be super exciting now that I have free time to like, live my life. Stay tuned for some cool posts this month, including some manifestation magic and a journey into Druidry…

What are you loving lately? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to know! ♥

march favorites: essential oils, new books, and more!

HOW is it already April? I don’t even know where March went, you guys. What did I even do?? It was a blur. The good news is I’ve been loving a ton of stuff this month, so there are a lot of faves!

This month was for settling into our new Wisconsin home, making big plans, and… putting in my notice at my day job! I’ll probably be doing a post soon on how and why I decided to quit, since I’ve never been one of those “quit your day job” people, but for now I’m tying up loose ends and preparing for my new full-time freelance life. If you need a freelance writer/editor or tarot reader, I’m your gal 😉

Websites I’m Reading

Author Mark Pannebecker is working on a really cool project – 21 novellas, each one based on the Major Arcana of the tarot! The Magician involves motorcycles and mischief – perfect for fans of Sons of Anarchy. Check it out!

Foxs Lane is a blog that’s basically about my dream life – a family of organic farmers growing their own crops and tending the land. Love!

Decks I’m Using

The Pagan Otherworlds tarot arrived this month and I am in LOVE. Smitten. Hardcore crushin’. Check this one out, you guys.

The Ostara Tarot* is being re-released this month! I’m SO excited. I’ve been admiring pictures of this deck forEVER and soon it will be mine!!

Zoe, the creator of one of my all-time faves the Sacred Wild oracle, has created a second oracle deck! The Sacred Soul Searching oracle is available now. Goooo get it! Mine is in the mail!

Books I’m Loving (I talked about these on my Instagram stories a while back, are we friends there? <3)

This month I’ve been reading Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner* by Scott Cunningham. I’m sort of in a spiritual revamp at the moment and I wanted to learn a little more about Wicca to expand my horizons. I know EVERYONE has already read this book, but I’m really enjoying it – it’s way more flexible than I expected!

I’m also reading Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants*. So far it’s a lovely book about humans’ relationship with the earth, what it can teach us, and our responsibility to care for it.

The Essential Oil Truth Second Edition: the Facts Without the Hype* is an amazing book about how essential oils are made and how they work. I learned so much about the process and what to look for in a brand!

Pretty Etsy Finds

I ADORE everything in this shop. I purchased one of her moonstone necklaces and it’s so gorgeous and high-quality. Highly recommend!

Labradorite is my crystal crush this month. Loving these wands!

Other Miscellaneous Faves

As you may know from my Instagram, this month I signed up to be a Young Living distributor! <3 I love these oils and I’m so excited to be getting more involved with the company. I’ll do a blog post soon on why I chose Young Living, but in the meantime if you want any oils, I’m you gal! If you order the Premium Starter Kit (a hella good deal, it’s only $160 for SO much stuff) through my link here, I’ll be your sponsor and will be here to help you with any questions you have at any time.

I’ll also send you a copy of French Aromatherapy* and a bottle of the Grounding blend (my fave) as a thank-you! If you’re interested in the business side of Young Living, I can also give you access to several Facebook groups that are packed with resources on how to go about it. Basically it’s a big party and you’re invited!!

Anyway, I’m off to Milwaukee for the night to eat some cheese and drink some local beerz. I hope you’re having an amazing weekend full of delicious foods and things you like! <3

february favorites: tarot decks, blog posts, books, and more!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a favorites post! I always feel like “who’s going to care?” but then I remember how much I love reading other peoples’ favorites posts so I think doing them once a month won’t be so bad.

February was gone in the blink of an eye around here! I spent most of it packing, painting, working my buns off, and generally running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Tomorrow is the official Moving Day (for those who don’t know, I’m relocating from Illinois to Wisconsin) and after the bulk of the unpacking is done, I look forward to not doing anything for a long while.

Pretty Etsy Finds

Shameless plug, but if you like my purple tarot case, my man Gear Box Leather is offering it in his Etsy shop for you to purchase! I have two from him and they hold up so well.
I need one of these carved Wheels of the Year for my altar, stat.
Also this glass pyramid box. How pretty would my crystals look in there?!

Other Miscellaneous Faves

I would not have slept at all this month if it weren’t for Eden’s Garden’s Good Night oil blend. I have this set* and it’s amazing. (Side note: Young Living has some products I really want to try, so I’ll be ordering those soon, but I promise I’m never going to be one of those people who’s trying to hawk essential oils at every turn. It gets old when people are constantly trying to sell you stuff.)

Whew! That was a lot of stuff for such a short month. What have you been loving in February? Decks, books, other things? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear all about it! ♥

Oh man, it’s pretty much SEPTEMBER! I am so ready to ditch this crazy summer heat for some cool fall days. I feel like I’ve been sweaty pretty much constantly since May or so. TMI?

I’m changing up the way I do these monthly round-up posts because I realized that when I personally read blog posts, I wanna see STUFF. I wanna see what stuff you’re loving so I can love it too! Discovering new stuff and ordering it online is one of my fave pastimes, as we know from reading my post about all the stuff I wasted a bunch of money on. But not EVERYTHING I buy is a regret, so here’s some stuff I was really loving this month! Like usual, affiliate links are marked with a *.

Let’s start with the mega-fave…

august favorites

1. Herbal Goddess by Amy Jirsa*

You GUYS. Why have I not heard more about this book? It has EVERYTHING I like – pretty pictures, yoga poses, recipes, a crapton of information, and basic explanations of things because I am an herb newbie and am easily confused by words like “tincture.” If you’ve been wanting to dive into the world of herbs but don’t know where to start, this is a GREAT book. It talks about 12 basic herbs and goes into so much detail about what they can do for your mind, body, and spirit. Think medicinal properties mixed with magic. Plus it’s totally gorgeous. I think even if you’ve been working with herbs for a while this book would be great, because it has recipes and yoga poses for EACH HERB. You can work with your herbs in a whole new way!

2. The Green Witch Tarot*

Also shown in that picture above, I picked up the Green Witch Tarot earlier this month and I am in love! It feels very rustic and homey with a lot of, well, green in it (go figure.) It’s getting me pumped for fall and making me want to sweep the hearth and make a handmade wreath even though I’ve never done that ever and chores make me really irritated. Plus I feel super witchy when I use it. Which brings me to my other deck favorite…

3. The Victorian Fairy Tarot*

I’ve had this deck for a long time but never really used it because it comes in one of those giant boxes, so it was just kind of a pain to reach for. I decided to just leave it out on one of my altars and see what happened, and I ended up using it a lot this month! These cards are seriously gorgeous and the cardstock is a little better than the Green Witch tarot in my opinion. It’s a little different than your typical tarot deck because the suits are the four seasons instead of cups, pentacles, and all that, but I kind of like the change of pace.

4. My herb journal!

In that same pic, you can see a little of my herb journal! I wanted a little journal I could keep all the basics in and also take with me on hikes as a “field guide” of sorts, so I repurposed my failed bullet journal (I just couldn’t keep up with it!) and now it’s my herb journal! I have way too many journals…

Some non-stuff favorites this month…

  • The Bristol Renaissance Faire! I’m so sad that Ren Faire season is almost over around here. I feel like fall would be the ideal time to have a faire like that. But anyway, I went during Celtic weekend and had the best time! If you’ve never been to a Ren Faire, you HAVE to go. For real. Go this weekend. It’s an absolute blast. Especially if you’re into tarot and witchery, because they had SO many shops selling tarot cards and books, crystals, incense, candles, and all that good stuff!
  • Milwaukee! I’ve been up there a lot recently since my boyfriend and I are planning to move to either Wisconsin or Michigan once our lease is up. If you’re in the area, you need to visit Lakefront Brewery. It’s way more fun than your typical brewery tour and their cheese curds are TO DIE FOR.
  • DARIUS RUCKER! Fun fact about me: Hootie and the Blowfish is my favorite band. “Only Wanna Be With You” is my favorite song of ALL TIME. I know that’s not very ~cool witch~ of me but NEWSFLASH, I’m actually a big dork. And also I love country music, so seeing Darius Rucker live was an actual dream come true. He played Only Wanna Be With You, I screamed my face off, it was the best.
  • Knitting! Earlier in August I took a knitting class and surprisingly I didn’t totally suck at it. It’s really relaxing and although I can only make dishcloths right now, I’m seeing some scarves in my future…

Also, some faves from around the Internet:

  • The Witch of Lupine Hollow has a new eBook in her store! Go read her blog and fall in love with her witchy ways.
  • One of my fave Tumblr tarot people has her own site now! Check out Limoniume and dreamy sigh with me over Chan’s gorgeous pictures.
  • This watercolor painting tutorial makes it look so easy. I might give it a try…
  • Lusting over this dreamy necklace. If you put a moon on it, chances are I want it.

And that’s all from my end! What have you been loving this month, stuff or otherwise? Leave me a comment and let me know! <3
